Rhonda (Mar 28, 2008) Tie-Died? Really? I don't see it. Would you mind shareing your process? Thank You, Rhonda
aemcc (Mar 28, 2008) Not at all, Ronda! I had great fun. :>) I was looking for a new approach to using the TJ markers, and decided to treat them like fiber dye. First I wet the 22"x22" piece of fairly heavy poly cotton. Then I knotted, twisted, and tied off parts. While it was still pretty wet, I applied the broad TJ marker in random places all over the outside. Then I opened it out and let it dry completely. The next day, I ironed it and tried to see what it might look like. There were rocky and flowery splotches, and there seemed to be some places I could construct daisies, so I went with a rock garden. Next I layered it quilt style (top, then batting, then plain cloth) and pinned it together. By lowering the feed dogs on my sewing machine, I could free motion quilt around any areas of color. I especially liked the way the TJs bled from red to pink, and blue to turquois. When I had the rocks and plants sewn (albeit abstractly!) I went back with the TJs -- thick and thin -- and colored in any areas that were needed to make the picture more real. To lighten some areas and give it more detail, I needle felted loose fibers of cloth and yarn over parts. That is most of what you see as the flower details (like on the rocks?) I sewed a border around it and mitered it, then pillow cased the whole thing so the back would be covered. Three ribbons were sandwiched in between the frame and back on the top as I sewed the top so it could hang from the bamboo pole (which I ALSO had to touch up with the TJ after I sawed it to fit!) The finished size is about 24" x 24", and it is ready to hang as it is. Any other questions? I will be happy to answer. :>) Anne (aemcc)
aemcc (Mar 28, 2008) This didn't go to the "For Sale" part, even though I thought I clicked on that when I submitted it. Anyone have any ideas what I might have done wrong so that it would not show up? Thanks! Anne (aemcc)
Petrifiera (Mar 29, 2008) Wow, after reading your explanation, I am very impressed by your work! :] I can see how you used the materials now. Very nice. You should contact the site owners and see if they could edit that problem for you.
Rhonda (Mar 29, 2008) Your Piece IS,... "Beautymuss Maxamuss"!!! ...Thank You, for explaining that to me. I've made washes before and have a new surprise on the way too. BTW.... As you post your picture and have anything to say about it while posting, there is a box that says, " check here" if this piece is for sale. I'm Paraphrasing....and you enter your price. Again, Very Nice, Rhonda :)
aemcc (Mar 31, 2008) Thank you all for your advice about the sale question. It turns out that the site owners emailed me saying I had not typed in the price when I signed up for it! Ahhh! This humanity thing is out to get me again! Now that I have fixed that, you can see that they have kindly listed it for sale in the right section. Anne (aemcc)
wiz (Apr 1, 2008) awesome way to mix your media - i love that you've incorporated felting, quilting, drawing and the 'tie-dye' into your piece
